Hello Year 1, I hope you are having a wonderful rest and enjoying the holidays.
You may well have guessed from your Brain Builders in your learning logs what topic we are learning about this term. As part of our exciting new topic we are going to have some WOW activities, on the first Thursday afternoon when we are back at school. Year 1 will be experiencing their very own SEASIDE DAY! I hope the children will really enjoy this and be enthusiastic about learning about the Seaside. Please could you let them bring any sun hats, sunglasses, towels, to get them in the spirit of things.
PS just a reminder Year 1 will be making their instruments for our Sound and Hearing topic in Science so please bring in any spare containers.
Thank you for your continued and brilliant support.

Year 1 have had an amazing week at school learning all about Science during our Science week. We have learned so much, completed experiments and investigations to do with the Earth, including the weather, seasons, light and dark and young and adult animals. My favourite has to be going in to the Science dome that had landed from out of space and a visit from a real-life scientist.
What have you learned in Science week and what was your favourite activity?

Dear Parents and carers,
Year 1 are going to be doing some new and excting, creative homework. I hope this will help them continue their learning at home that encourages them to use their imagination. I have seen some brilliant learning logs in Year 2 and have decided to magpie theirs and Miss Farr’s super homework.
In Year 1s new homework books,a brain builder has been glued in with different activities and objectives for the children to work at. They can choose how much or little they do of these brain builders and remember to be as creative as they want to be. The children will have a week and a half to complete each Brain Builder, they will be given on a Friday and the due date will be for a week and half later. The children will share their brilliant work on a Wednesday. Then it will be marked before they are given another Brain Builder on the Friday.
Please don’t hesitate to come and see me if you are unsure of anything and the children can speak to me any day before their work is due if they need any help.
Thank you for your support

As part of our topic ‘Sound and Hearing’ in Science, this term my super scientists are going to be investigating materials to make their very own musical instrument of a drum and shaker and find out which materials produce the most effective noise for their instruments and describe the types of sounds they make. For this, Year 1 super scientists will need lots of containers, elastic bands and seeds, beans, lentils to make their shakers. I will do my best to provide as many different types of containers, materials for shakers, paper, felt etc but would appreciate anything that could be donated for our super investigation that will begin in week 2.
Thank you for your continued support.

Here are some games that may help with your learning and be fun at the same time. I will add the links to the webpages to make it easier for you to play them.

As part of our Literacy this term Year One are going to be word detectives, completing hunts for different words (synonyms) for words such as said and using more WOW words and sentence openers. We want to make our brilliant writing even more interesting by using different words and sentence openers.
What words could you hunt as detectives for the word said? Think about the how they are speaking?
Year 1, if you can, I want you to rally write (one word from each person at a time) for the word said. Feel free to magpie each others ideas and try and uplevel the words you are using. We will then do a write concensus and a wordle for everybody to see our fabulous different ideas to use for the word said.

The first week back Year 1 will be comparing the fairytale Cinderella to the play-script of the same story. As part of this we will be looking at all the adjectives we could use to help us describe them and how we perform as those characters. Can you think of WOW words to describe the Step Mother? Concentrate on what type of person she is and how she behaves.

Year One have done some fabulous work on different countries around the world, their projects were brilliant. They clearly spent a long time working on them and I am so proud of each of you. We are lucky enough to be continuing with our topic on Barnaby Bear and will be learning about and comparing the countries of India, Antarctica, and London.

What country do you think Barnaby will be visiting next?
